Ooty Lake a Beautiful Attraction You Must Visit

Ooty is also known as the “Queen of Hill Stations” and is situated
on the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu in India. Ooty is rich in crystal clear lakes and lush green forestry. You can spot many colonial bungalows some amongst which being the major attractions of the tourists.

When you visit Ooty do make it a point to visit the Bellikal Lake, Catherine Falls, Emerald Lake, Kalhatti Falls, Kamraj Sagar Lake, Hidden Valley, Rose Garden, Tea Gardens and the Ooty Lake. History of Ooty Lake:    

It was in the year 1824 that the Ooty Lake became a reality because of John Sullivan. The water in the Ooty Lake is actually the collection of the water flowing down the streams in the Ooty Valley. The actual reason for the construction of the Ooty Lake was to do fishing with ferries that is by traveling across the lake. 

However, it is this very lake which has expanded its boundaries and today has a beautiful garden as well as an extravagant race course of Horses. It was in the year 1973 that the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation took over the possession of the lake and made it a place famous for mainly boating.

The Eucalyptus trees are surrounded by the sides of the beautiful lake. There is also a railway line which is present on one side along the shore. You should not miss out the two-day boat race in the Ooty Lake which is held in the month of May.

Attraction of the Ooty Lake:

·         Boat House was one amongst the additional feature of the Ooty Lake by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC).

·         Although boating being the prime attraction of the lake, Boat Houses also draw attention of sufficient amount of tourists.

·          Boating is offered in various forms such as Paddle Boats, Motor Boats and Row Boats.

·         A mini train and an amusement park are the additional attractions of the lake.

·         Other attractions of the lake are the Pony rides which is in front of the boat house.

·         Canteen run by the TTDC is also a major attraction of the visitors.

Best time to visit:

Ooty has a favorable climate all through the year as in the Summers it is very pleasant, in the Winters it is cool and in the Monsoons it happens to appear even more beautiful. And it is this very reason that it can be visited any time during the year. However, you can make the most of Ooty in the months of October to June.

By Road: You can opt for either a government or a luxury bus to reach Ooty, thereby taxis or private vehicles being an all time option available.
