Dharmadam Island
Dharmadam Island is a small island, located in
Thalassery, in the Kannur district of Kerala. The island is situated at a
distance of about 4 km from the main town of Thalassery and at a distance of
about 17 km from the main town of Kannur.
The Dharmadam island beach is the
main attraction of this place, which is considered as one of the best tourist
destinations in Kerala. The island is dotted with coconut trees and rare
varieties of orchids.
The island is a home to several rare species of plants
and the brown rocks covering some areas of the island, is very fascinating to
watch. Muzhappilangad beach is another major attraction close to this place
where you can enjoy a long beach drive. Dharmadam Island is also considered as
a perfect picnic spot among the locals during the weekends.
Pathiramanal Island
The island is located at the borders of Kottayam and
Alappuzha district in Kerala. It is a small island located on the backwaters of
Alappuzha. As it is locate on the renowned backwater destination of Kerala, the
place has become a popular stop-by for the travelers. It is also a popular
destination for bird watchers as it is a home to diverse variety of both native
and migratory species of birds.
An interesting legend is associated with the
name of this island, which literary means ‘sands of midnight’. It has been
named so, because the locals believe that the sea turned into a land when a
Brahmin priest into the sea, to offer evening prayers.
Kavvayi Island
It is a small island, located in the Kannur district of
Kerala, near Payyannur. A small bridge connects the place with Payyannur. Kavvayi
River flows besides this island, which is one of the longest backwater
destinations in the state.
Tourists can enjoy walk along the shores of this
island while enjoying the scenic views surrounding the area. One can also opt
to board on the country boats to explore the picturesque views along the
Kavvayi River.
Munroe Island
The island is located in the Kollam district of Kerala,
at the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River. One can witness the

The island is located at a distance of about 5 km from
the city of Ernakulam. Before the island was taken over by the Portuguese, the
place was inhabited by a small fishing community. But after the Portuguese came
to this place, the place witnessed an urban development and today it holds one
of the highest densities of population among the islands in Kerala.
The
Portuguese built many churches in this area including the renowned Church of
Our Lady of Hope. The Pallipuram fort, structured by the Portuguese is another
major attraction of this place. There are many unexplored areas at this place
and the lighthouse at Ochanthuruthu, with its adjacent beach, are the must
visit destinations on the Vypeen Island.
