Settlement which is to be found at the streets of Mala is definitely one of the

Mala
Jewish Community
Grandeur of Mala Jewish
Synagogue is definitely one of the splendours and masterpiece of their work and
skill because within the doors of it you will witness exquisite carving which
are done in various column and model. Beside that adjacent to the site of Mala
Jewish community you will witness Jewish cemetery which reflects their love and
the testimony and obituary of their ancestor.
As per the history and
recorded documents Jewish began to migrate in Kerala in 72 AD and started
working as a trading commuter. As per the beliefs there were 40 Jewish families
who travelled here after the formation of Israel and according to history they
were the first Jewish community to migrate within the shore of Kerala.
There was so much of
influence of their settlement here they doubt even the word mala shares its
association with Hebrew word which means centre of refugee.
Mala
Jewish Synagogue
Settled within the
junction of commercial streets, the chrome of yellow building with the
customary upper windows glowing out from the core sanctuary speaks the volume
of their culture and art. Vast stretch of building that covers the both lane of
the shops where second level of complex looks to traverse the streets below is
unusual method of structuring the site which generally depicts their style.
Unfortunately everything
which was brought here from the Jewish family travelled home along with them
and now all you can witness is untamed woman’s gallery and once you will look
down from the height all you are going to witness is conked out roofs and its residual.
History
of Mala Jewish Synagogue
Although there are no
proper documents and evidence to trace when Jews started settling within the
corner of Thrissur and when they established their first synagogue but the
local people still recognised them as an active trader and shop owners.
As per the accounts you can trace the incident
of Prem Doss Swami Doss Yehudi, who prescribed regarding Jewish Malayalam folk
song where he revealed the fact that woods which was used to structure complex
was provided to Joseph Rabban in 1000 CE by the Rajah of Cranganore.
Furthermore Yehudi states
that the real synagogue which was established in eleventh century was destroyed
due to invalid reason and the new complex was stiffen up at 14th
century which was again restored in 1792.
Current
Status of Mala Jewish Synagogue
At present the doors of
the Synagogue are under the authority of Panchayat and municipality and all the
people are require to contact with the staff members to locate the Key in order
to enter inside.
Prior to 1955 the
Synagogue buildings were at its best but with the intervention of Municipality
the grounds and the parts of the synagogue have been led to fragment there
without any maintenance. Beside that it is even sad to hear the Tebah, Heckal
and the furnishings and fittings were moved from there and now it is completely
missing the only thing that conjures the faith is its balcony and second Tebah.
While with the growth of
public interest regarding the importance of synagogue which reflects the
history and its relation with kerala the humble restoration work was carried in
late 2010 by the department of Municipality.
Mala
Jewish Cemetery
Settled at the central
residential area the gates of cemetery were handed over to the local panchayat
on April 1, 1955 by the trustees whose names are carved outside that gate and
it states that the cemetery gates operates under the lights of local authority.
Primarily the site of the cemetery is divided into two sections and seeing its
importance the court has declared the site not to be used as play field.

heart of the Mala town you can get an ample of bus that operates from private
