Birdwatchers Paradise, Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary


Well if you wish to feel the serenity of nature and want to get out from the bustle and hustle life
then you must come and see the wonderful environment of Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary which is true ecological hub of nature and here you will witness the incident of it. Located within the milieu of Kochi just at the rear side of Kerala High Court building this sanctuary can be considered as the gem of Kochi. Sensitive in nature one must understand the symphony and significance of this place as the green ambiance is a home to many migratory birds.

 Bordered by the native appeal of Arabian Sea the area of sanctuary relates the brilliance of nature and from here you can actually enjoy the peripheral view of the surroundings.

Importance of This Bird Sanctuary
Before you make your way here make sure to understand that this place is a nesting ground of a diverse species of migratory birds and owing to its importance it gives breeding opportunity for this refuge bird so that they could inherit their culture within the boundary and enhance it.

For bird watchers and twitches this place can be ideal as the lush ambiance acts as a roosting place for inhabitant and for migratory birds. As per the survey which was conducted in 2006 disclosed the fact that there were 194 birds which referred to 32 different species.

 Flora
As mentioned above the magical green ambiance which relates the glory of nature is severely lived by many blossoms. Beside that amazing weather that cultivates and produces the brilliance of flora likes Avicennia officinalis, Rhizophora mucronata, Acanthus ilicifolius and Acrostichum aureum. Beside that here one would see the flourishing Mangroves and its fertile land that suits the germination of Mangroves in turn gifts the surroundings with many species of it.

Within the list of endangered flora Avicennia officinalis and Rhizophora mucranata has been considered as the threatened one by International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Fauna
Since we all know an abundance of flora has a direct connection with bemusing fauna and here it is no exception. As you enter the sanctuary you will witness six species of mammals and it includes flying-fox, painted bat, Eurasian otter, house rat and three-striped palm squirrel.
That’s not all you will also get a chance to spot two species of amphibians which is limnonectes limnocharis and duttaphrynus melanostictus.

In the middle of green ambiance which is countered by the meandering tidal lake one will witness the thick beauty of mangrove vegetation and the lake that shimmers down connects the site of Cochin backwaters by a canal. Beneath the shallow field of water one will get to see the seven species of fishes Anabas testudineus, striped panchax, Orange chromide, Etroplus suratensis, Malabar swamp eel, Blackline rasbora and Sarotherodon.

Within an open field of Mangalavanam where beauty of fresh air thrills the mind and recollects the minds you will witness 17 species of butterflies which calls for a rainbow of nature.
