Presiding Deity of Lord Krishna at Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple

Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna temple is a true Hindu temple located in Alappuzha district of Kerala. Associated with Guruvayoor Sri Krishna Temple they say this temple came into picture during 790 AD.

The idol you are going to witness here is equated to Parthasarthi which has whisk in the right hand and Sacred conch in the other. It is said that during the course of Tipu Sultan the idol of Sri Krishna was shifted to Ambalappuzha Temple from Guruvayoor for the safety of it.

Ambalappuzha payasam which is served to devotees is famous amongst Hindu believers. This amazing Pudding which is made out of rice and milk reflects the mythological site.

Legends
Once Lord Krishna appeared in the form of sage in front of the King who ruled the region at that particular time and offered him a fair contest of chess as king was too enthusiast about chess and agreed to play against.

Before taking on board of chess Sage asked the king to Offer him a grain of rice if he won the game and King happily agreed to the same and also agreed on the page that each square would double the grain of rice.

As Lord Krishna won the game king was happy in giving the grain of rice but soon he realised the motives of demanding to double the grain of rice by each grid and by the time he doubled the grain of 20th square he realised his kingdom has run out of the rice.

So seeing this situation lord Krishna gave him an option to pay him partially and told that he would serve paal payasam till his debt is clear and King in his turn agreed with the same.

Architecture
Modest approach of Kerala style coming to craft the fantasy of this temple is just tremendous work of construction. Paintings of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu within the premises of temple reveal the association of Lord Krishna with this temple.

Besides that,  this temple is renowned for its sorcerers, which is performed once in every twelve years and it’s also a site where Ottanthullal, was performed.

Festivals
Ambalapuzha Temple Festival which is also known as Chambakulam Moolam water festival is celebrated on the Moolam day and it is celebrated every year where tourist and devotees comes from all across the world to take blessings from Lord Krishna.

The Aaraattu festival starts with the flag hosting on the Atham star during the month between March and April. It takes place on the same month of Thiruvonam day.

Beside that temple also takes share pleasure in celebrating Pallipana which happens once in every twelve years.

If you wish to land here via road then Alappuzha is just 15 km away from here.
Nearest railway station is Ambalapuzha, which is at a distance of 2 km beside that Alappuzha station which circle the site is also 14 km away from here.


Nearest airport is Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, which is at a distance of approximately 37 km away from the site of this temple.
